An opportunity for businesses to reach new and large audiences is in town, and it is just one App Store visit away. TikTok is a new social media platform, which is growing rapidly and quickly. It has become the next app to master for several brands and businesses.
With over 2 billion app downloads, TikTok has more than 800 million active users worldwide. The main users are teenagers and young adults, between the ages of 10 and 29 years old. Which means that using this social media platform will grant you access to an ever-growing audience and a relatively easy to use platform to create video content that goes viral and reaches a wide audience. Whether coming up with a hashtag challenge or a dance routine, you can choose an idea and encourage users to participate using the branded hashtag that you have come up with. A good way of increasing interactions with your brand.
However, with all that being said, is TikTok right for your business?
While the audience on TikTok is large, one needs to consider whether their target audience uses the app. Although, TikTok’s main audience are Gen Z, one can compare other social media platforms such as Instagram which started with a similar audience and eventually diversified leading to millions of brands using the app as a marketing channel. By using a new platform in its early stages, you will be able to get a head start on your competitors before the platform is oversaturated with other brand adverts.
Some major brands are working with TikTok influencers to extend their reach. These influencers tend to have a large following, and now would be a great time to start working with them.
TikTok currently has several ad formats, these include:
- In-feed ads – similar to Instagram adverts which appear when you scroll through the app feed,
- Branded Takeovers – these appear when someone opens the app, and
- Branded Effects – that make use of AR filters, stickers, and lenses.
Whilst, these options allow quite a good potential for connecting with TikTok’s audience, their minimum spend might not be affordable for small businesses.
A definite upside of using TikTok is that one can film and edit videos using their smartphone, therefore without the need of investing in extra gear. However, if you want to truly grasp the user’s attention on this app, it is very important to come up with original and engaging content.
Take some time and research TikTok further, understand how it works, and whether your target audience is actually using TikTok. Despite requiring some planning ahead, TikTok offers a variety of different benefits and opportunities for companies looking to expand their social media presence.
